Villa del Cigliano: “Visiting the Villa between Wine and History”
We are at the beautiful Villa del Cigliano, in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Tuscany, where some American Friends, from Ohio, came to visit us, to enjoy the wonders of the majestic and ancient villa and taste, directly at the winery , Wines and Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced by the Montecchi Family.
In the courtyard of the Fifteenth Century Villa the crests of the Antinori and Coltibuoni noble families are placed to witness the union of the two noble houses by virtue of a marriage. The current owners are descended from these two very famous families from Tuscany.
Here the garden, courtyards and outdoor spaces are home to countless statues and decorations. In this picture you can see the beautiful Fountain of Neptune.
These very old oil jars (still in use!) remind us that in addition to the wine, here at Villa del Cigliano they produced, and still produces, a wonderful Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Here we are in the Cellar. It’s time to taste wines together!
In the picture Anna Maccaferri Montecchi, who still lives in Villa del Cigliano, together with her guests smiling during a visit in the winery.
Then we move inside the Villa where numerous decorations and fountains make the atmosphere unique.
The Antinori Family Tree shows in one of the rooms of the Villa
Tired, but delighted, we finally sit at the table to have lunch enjoying local, traditional dishes and sipping on a glass of Suganella or Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Cigliano
It’s time to go. Guests leave taking away the vivid memory of a beautiful, steeped in history, place and of the friendly, generous people they met here. An absolutely unforgettable day!
