Unmaredivino: “The country festival at San Marco”
About three and a half kilometers from the town of Berchidda, we get to the country Church of San Marco, which presumably dates back to the thirteenth century.
At this church, on April 25th of each year, takes place the San Marco Festival, the first of the season, a country festival with outdoor dining enlivened by various popular activities. On the left, in the photo above, the Mount Acuto, on the right you can see the Mount Limbara.
One more picture with the Mount Acuto in the background. Gioacchino Sini points out that there are no vineyards around, yet we are in a land famous for vineyards! In fact, he says, if we move right, no more than a thousand meters, at the foot of the town of Berchidda, that is the area of the historic vineyards of Berchidda where the bigger one may be 1 ha and the smallest is as small as 1000 sq.m: “Everybody has a piece of land with vines in Berchidda, they all make their own wine for the family.”
During the San Marco festival the traditional “Zuppa Berchiddese” (Soup from Berchidda) is served along with boiled lamb, typical dishes of the local rural life. Next thing we want to find out for you is how to make “Zuppa Berchiddese”…stay with us for more fun!
