Santo Iolo: “The art of Patricia Glee Smith”
A friend and a big fan of Santo Iolo wines…
Not too far from the cellar in the historic center of Otricoli, in a charming house cut in the thickness of the walls of the medieval town, lives a sweet American lady: Patricia Glee Smith, for us Pat. A painter by profession, a career built trough exhibitions in Europe and in the United States, made of illustrations for The New Yorker and more recently, of digital painting.
When she was a student of fine arts at the University of Illinois, teachers criticized her style saying that it did not fit into any avant-garde, in a historical moment in which painting was synonymous of breaking out with tradition.
Today her still life paintings enchant with the strength of the objects, which become very important, almost monumental, without ever being cold or distant..
A great artist, a person of many talents whose passions range from violin to kitchen, new technologies for digital painting and traditional American cakes. Without forgetting another Patricia’s great passion: our Santoiolo.
